Calliope Feminist Choir is a group of nearly forty women committed to sharing music that reflects feminist values and highlights the beauty of women’s voices.

Calliope is a member of the International Sister Singer Network, an organization composed of women’s choirs throughout the US and Canada.

Under the leadership of Nancy Pierce, Calliope has produced three full-length concerts and performs at several community events during the year. Performances feature music that honors and promotes justice, peace, equality and right relationship with the earth. Our fourth annual concert will be held April 23, 2006, at Stuart’s Opera House in Nelsonville.

Since its inception in Athens, Ohio, in 1993, Calliope has gained a reputation for offering beautiful a cappella performances, which blend challenging content and harmonious melodies. This year's concert continues in traditional fashion with a selection bound to please and provoke. Pieces will range from sweet and familiar "Cradle Songs" to Holly Near’s provocative "I Ain’t Afraid." Not to be missed, this concert will undoubtedly offer another outstanding and meaningful musical experience.

The 2006 Calliope Feminist Choir concert will be held April 23 at 4:00 p.m. at Stuart's Opera House. A reception will follow in the Opera House lobby. Cost is a sliding scale of $10 - $25.  Tickets available now from Stuart's box office or from any Calliope member.
